Board Appointment Process

Summary of Process and Application

At the November 2024 election, Board of Education member Jonathan Zachreson was elected to serve a full-term representing Trustee Area 5. This created a vacancy on the Board in the at-large position Trustee Zachreson held until this most recent election.

The Board has determined it will fill the vacancy by Board appointment. Beginning December 17, 2024 and ending at 4:30 p.m. on January 17, 2025, the Board will be accepting applications to fill this position. Please click the link for a copy of the application - RCSD Board Vacancy Application 24.25 - or visit the RCSD District Office at 1050 Main Street, Roseville. Following a review of applications to confirm eligibility on January 22, 2025, the Board will announce the names of those who will interview with the Board to fill the vacancy on January 23, 2025.

Thereafter, at a Board meeting on February 1, 2025, the Board will meet in an open session public meeting at 8:00 a.m. at the District’s Office, 1050 Main Street, Roseville, to review all applications and to interview the applicants. Applicants should make themselves available for this meeting. The Board’s appointment of the applicant to fill this position will take place on February 1, 2025.

Applications will be accepted from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the District Office, beginning December 17, 2024. The District Office will be closed to the public between Friday, December 20 and Friday, January 3. Do not submit applications during this time period. To be considered as an applicant, the application must be received in the District Office by 4:30 p.m. on January 17, 2025. Any application received after 4:30 p.m. on January 17, 2025 will not be accepted. The District will not be responsible for applications delivered late. All applications must be submitted on paper to the office and applicants will receive a confirmation of receipt.

  • January 23, 2025 – Regular Board Meeting - announce applicants
  • Saturday, February 1, 2025 – Special Board Meeting - Applicant interviews and provisional appointment

Thank you for your interest in seeking appointment to the Governing Board of the Roseville City School District. As you know, a vacancy has occurred which shall be filled by the Board members within 60 days. As you consider whether you would like to apply for an appointment to the Board, the following information may be of assistance.

Why is there a vacancy at this time? 

There is a vacancy on the Board because Board member Zachreson, who was previously serving a term from 2022-2026 in an at-large seat was elected to the Trustee Area 5 seat for the 2024-2028 term.

What are the qualifications for serving on the Board?

A person must be a citizen of California, a resident of Roseville City School District, at least 18 years old, a registered voter, and not otherwise legally disqualified from holding civil/public office.

What do I need to apply for the position?

The Board has determined that it will accept application materials which include a complete Qualification Form and Application. These materials are available online - RCSD Board Vacancy Application 24.25 - or hard copies can be obtained by visiting the RCSD District Office at 1050 Main Street, Roseville. Complete application materials must be received in the District Office, no later than 4:30 p.m. on January 17, 2025. The District Office will be closed to the public between Friday, December 20 and Friday, January 3. Do not submit applications during this time period. Applicants must be available for interviews with the Board at an open meeting on February 1, 2025.

If I am selected by the Board, when do I take office and when do I run for election?

The Board anticipates making a selection on February 1, 2025. The new member will attend their first full Board meeting on February 20, 2025 after they are sworn into office. The Board member will serve the remainder of the term until November, 2026, at which time an election will be held for a new term. Please note, while this vacancy is being filled at-large, all elections for Board members in 2026 will be held by-trustee area.

What other information should I consider?

Serving on the school board can be a valuable and satisfying way to make a significant contribution to the community. The Board, staff, parent and student community have enjoyed a collegial relationship. As public officials, Board members do have to comply with certain restrictions not encountered in their private lives.

Upon assuming office, a Board member must file a Statement of Economic Interest which is a public document that discloses the Board member’s financial holdings and other economic interests within the boundaries of the District (excluding a personal residence). Board members must restrain from Board activities which constitute a conflict of interest or which are incompatible with their role as Board member.
