Welcome to Second Grade! I am looking forward to a wonderful year of learning and fun with your second grader. My primary form of communication will be weekly email updates. These updates will have brief overviews of what we did in class each week along with upcoming class and school reminders. I will also have a section below with MANY ideas to help and/or enrich your child’s education at home.
The only nightly homework we have is to read with your children for at least 20 minutes a night. At this age, reading to/with your children is the most important thing you can do to support their education. Talk about what you’ve read with your children, ask questions about what they think will happen next in the story, or what they learned about a subject if you are reading a non fiction book. I will send home other homework assignments periodically and may ask you to have them practice math facts or writing complete sentences.
Your children will also bring home their math homework and remembering books to complete on a schedule that works best for your families. Keep these in a safe place as I do not have extras to give your child. Please do not have them work ahead in the book. Look for the classwork page that your child brings home each day and complete the corresponding page in their homework book. For example, if their classwork page says 1-2 in the top corner, have them complete the homework page that says 1-2 in the top corner. Then PLEASE CHECK THEIR WORK and have them fix any mistakes they made. The “stretch your thinking” problems can be challenging. I will be going over these in class with them, so they can skip those if they’re too difficult to complete at home. They can bring these completed pages into me for Coyote Coupons to enter into our class raffle box.
Please refer to our monthly school calendar on the Crestmont School Website for special school wide activities happening this month, and remember to read the emails from the school so you have the most up to date information available. We are a team in your child’s education so I want to thank you in advance for your support at home this year!
